Steven Bates
Director
Steven is the Founder of Purpose28 and Zebra Wealth Management, having previously founded the 'Giraffe' group of companies in 2009. Steven has over 25 years’ experience helping clients achieve their financial and business goals. Through his vision, integrity, and relentless focus on client success, he is recognised as one of the UK’s most experienced and effective financial advisers. Steven personally selects and mentors the advice team at Purpose28.
Carney Frater
Senior Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Carney brings a wealth of experience to our Mortgage & Protection team, having spent more than a decade helping clients navigate the mortgage market. Prior to joining Purpose28, she worked for one of the UK’s largest mortgage brokers and subsequently with Barclays Bank, developing extensive expertise across a wide range of lending scenarios.
Known for her ability to simplify even the most complex cases, Carney takes pride in helping clients understand their options and providing clear, practical guidance at every stage of the process. She has particular expertise in supporting clients with more intricate borrowing requirements and works closely with them to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Carney also leads our Buy-to-Let and Portfolio Landlord proposition, advising property investors with growing portfolios on financing strategies that support their long-term investment goals.
Steve Tough
Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Steve is an experienced Mortgage & Protection Adviser with over nine years in the mortgage sector, including seven years advising clients directly.
Having also held management positions in both the UK and USA, Steve brings a friendly, straightforward and highly personal approach to advice. He focuses on understanding what matters to each client and making the mortgage and protection process as simple as possible.
Outside work, Steve enjoys sport and the outdoors and holds qualifications in football coaching, powerboating and first aid.
Craig Robertson
Mortgage & Protection Adviser
Craig combines technical skill with a straight-talking, approachable style and is qualified across Mortgages, Protection and Equity Release.
Susie Wright
Will Writing Consultant
Susie works within our sister company, Purpose28 Wills & Estate Planning Ltd, where she helps clients protect what matters most through Will Writing and Lasting Power of Attorney services.
With a genuine passion for helping people, Susie is dedicated to delivering excellent client outcomes and ensuring every client feels comfortable, informed and supported throughout the process. Her warm, approachable nature, combined with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, enables her to quickly put clients at ease when discussing important personal and family matters.
Susie understands that estate planning is about much more than legal documents – it is about providing clarity, reassurance and peace of mind for the future. She takes the time to listen carefully to each client’s individual circumstances and wishes, ensuring tailored solutions that reflect what is most important to them and their loved ones.
Her caring and professional approach has made her a valued member of the Purpose28 team, helping clients take confidence from knowing their affairs are in order and their families are protected.
